The first issue of El Chapo Review will be published spring 2017. El Chapo despises quid pro quo and reads blindly so please REMOVE ALL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION from your document. No need for cover letters or bio. El Chapo anticipates an enormous amount of submissions and can only read so fast in prison. Simultaneous submissions are great. Please let us know if your piece is accepted elsewhere. Submit only one piece at a time. El Chapo responds within one month. We apologize, but the enormous quantity of submissions makes it impossible to offer personal replies. We do everything to reply within one month...if you haven't heard from us within a few weeks, it probably means your submission has made it to the next round. Please be patient. There is only one El Chapo. If we're holding your submission and you haven't heard from us within a month, you're definitely in the running. If you don't hear from El Chapo, it means your submission has made it to the next level. A new site with domain name will be created in coming months―so please don't fret this fledgling site. We're paying professional rates, so even if your essay was scribbled in the sand, it would be worth it. All rights revert to author so we might just scribble your piece in the sand, take some photos, then watch the waves swallow it. If quality of submissions is not up to par, there might only be one winner and one finalist. We want to publish the best work we can find.
